NorthAxis Sourcing steel-building scope and document review

NorthAxis Sourcing prepares one request so factories price the same steel-building problem. The work is document alignment and supplier questions. It is not a design stamp, and it does not state that any package meets a local code.

A honco lookup often arrives with a picture and no loads. The desk rewrites that picture into rows a fabricator can answer: occupancy, geometry, criteria, jurisdiction, count, and destination. Two quotations can then be set side by side without pretending they share a hidden scope.

Send Project Requirements

Six items on the request

  1. Use and occupancy
  2. Footprint, eave height, bay spacing
  3. Wind, snow, seismic, and floor loads
  4. Authority having jurisdiction
  5. Quantity and destination
  6. Shell, delivered, installed, or turnkey

Shell package against a wider scope

Use this table to see why two attractive totals can still be incomparable. Each factory is asked to mark every row as included, excluded, optional, or not yet confirmed. NorthAxis Sourcing does not average the two prices into one project cost.

Line Shell or kit Wider request
Primary frame and secondary framing Usually in the package. Confirm rigid frame or cold-formed steel, plus purlin and girt spacing. Same members, plus coordination with other trades on site.
Enclosure Often an add-on. State insulated metal panel, thermal transmittance, and fire-resistance rating if the use needs one. Included when the request says so. Confirm doors, windows, and trim as their own lines.
Foundation interface Anchor layout may be supplied. The slab and piers often stay with the buyer. Still confirm who designs the foundation and who builds it.
Delivery and set Freight may be extra. Crane lift plan and unloading need an owner. Transport envelope limits module or bundle size. An installation crew may be quoted. Site access and utilities may remain excluded.
Engineering file Ask which calculations apply to this geometry, this wind speed, this ground snow load, and this seismic design category. A broader price does not replace the file. AISC 360 and AWS D1.1 references must name the quoted system.

What the desk actually does

Questions buyers raise while the scope is still open

Which costs need their own confirmation?

Freight, crane, foundation, doors, insulation, permits, and installation. If a line is silent, treat it as unpriced. Do not fold it into the frame number because another supplier included it.

Can a standard bay replace a custom span?

A repeatable bay can shorten design effort when the site accepts the published width. A custom clear span fits an unusual process or a hangar door, and it needs its own calculations. The desk records which path the buyer chose. It does not declare one path cheaper.

What must every supplier quote?

Primary frame, secondary framing, the enclosure if requested, anchor assumptions, delivery point, and the list of exclusions. Quantity units must match: building sets, not mixed tonnes and modules, unless both units are shown.

Who decides code and award?

The buyer and the licensed professionals the buyer engages. IBC or IRC applicability depends on occupancy and the authority having jurisdiction. This website does not issue that determination. HUD Code remains a different regulatory path and is not applied here by analogy.

Ask for quotations on one written scope

Send the six checklist items through the requirement form. NorthAxis Sourcing can then put the same rows in front of factories. Stock, lead time, and code acceptance stay with those replies.
